A woman is dead and a man is fighting for his life after their car slammed into a utility pole and burst into flames in Garden Grove early Saturday morning. The crash near Knott Street and Acacia Avenue left both occupants unconscious inside the burning vehicle before officers pulled them free.
Garden Grove police say the wreck was reported at 2:55 a.m. Saturday, according to NBC Los Angeles. A white Toyota Highlander crashed into a utility pole near the intersection, and the impact caused the vehicle to catch fire. Officers arriving on scene found the driver and a passenger unconscious inside.
Officers Pull Victims From Burning Wreckage
Responding officers extracted both the driver and passenger from the vehicle and immediately began rendering aid, as reported by NBC Los Angeles. The passenger, identified only as a woman, died at the scene. Officials have not disclosed her name or age.
The driver, a man, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to UCI Medical Center for treatment, as noted by KTLA. Officials have not released any further details about his condition or identity, and the cause of the crash has not been made public.
