A woman is dead and a pickup driver was injured after a pickup truck and passenger car collided in Godfrey.

Crash Investigation Underway
The Madison County Coroner's Office and the Madison County Sheriff's Office are investigating the crash.
It is not the first time MECAT has been called to Godfrey this year. A June 11 crash on Godfrey Road near Crestwood Drive left a motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries and required emergency transport by Survival Flight, per RiverBender.com's earlier report.
A Long-Troubled Intersection Now Mid-Overhaul
A planned dual roundabout is set for West Delmar Avenue and Pierce Lane, according to a Village of Godfrey newsletter.
The intersection has long been flagged by state and local authorities for its crash history. IDOT data recorded 90 crashes between 2008 and 2014 near West Delmar Avenue and Pierce Lane, 65 of them rear-end collisions, while Madison County Sheriff's Office records logged 178 total accidents in the area between 2012 and 2022, according to a Village of Godfrey newsletter.
IDOT announced separate lane closures on Illinois Route 3 between Bloomer Drive and College Avenue in nearby Alton, starting September 18, for bridge reconstruction expected to last through spring 2027. Drivers moving through the Homer Adams Parkway corridor are now navigating overlapping work zones across two municipalities at once.
Speed Limits Still Apply, Even When No Crews Are Present
Under Illinois law, 625 ILCS 5/11-605.1, driving above the posted speed limit in a designated construction speed zone is prohibited regardless of whether road workers are actually present, according to the Illinois General Assembly.
Preliminary figures compiled by the Illinois Tollway and IDOT show that 35 people died in Illinois work zone crashes in 2025, a jump of 22 deaths over 2024, with state officials noting that vehicle occupants, not highway workers, make up the vast majority of those fatalities.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office is investigating what led to the collision.
