Josh Stein is set to visit Charlotte on Monday to celebrate the opening of a new DMV office on the city's east side, with the event scheduled to kick off at 2:30 p.m. The relocated office has moved from its former spot on Executive Circle to a new address at 5525 Albemarle Road, Suite 200, about 1.5 miles from where it used to sit.
News of the governor's visit was first reported by WSOC TV, which confirmed both the Monday date and the 2:30 p.m. start time for the celebration. Stein, who serves as governor of North Carolina, is expected to help mark the milestone for the East Charlotte driver license office as it settles into its new home.
A Short Move Across East Charlotte
The old Executive Circle location closed on Wednesday, Aug. 26, according to WBTV, which reported that drivers who once relied on that site would need to head to the new Albemarle Road building instead. That station's report also stated the new location was set to open Wednesday, Sept. 2 — a date that stands in contrast to the Sept. 28 celebration described in WSOC TV's account, and the dossier does not clarify whether the two dates refer to separate operational and ceremonial milestones.
Once fully up and running, the East Charlotte office will keep the same hours as before: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding state holidays, per the same WBTV account. That consistency is meant to ease the transition for regular customers even as the physical address changes.
Where to Go in the Meantime
While the move was underway, the station's report noted that customers could visit one of four nearby driver license offices — Charlotte North, Charlotte South, Charlotte West or Monroe — to keep up with their DMV needs. Some driver license services, including renewals, can also be completed online, offering another option for residents who would rather skip an in-person visit altogether.
