A 22-year-old Greensboro man and a 23-year-old Alamance County man are facing felony charges after Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say they conspired to carry out an attempted first-degree murder plot against a victim with a gun. The two were taken into custody following a traffic stop, and one of them was already carrying a prior manslaughter conviction from Alamance County.
Two Triad Residents Named in Conspiracy Case
Clifford Nathaniel Hayden, of Greensboro, and Zaire Clifford Amari Mills, of Alamance County, were charged with multiple felonies by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, according to myfox8.com. Police allege that Hayden conspired with Mills to commit the crime against the victim using a gun. The case was also reported by Queen City News, which noted both men have ties to the Piedmont Triad area.
Hayden, 22, was charged with three felonies: attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and felony conspiracy. Mills, 23, faces four felony counts, including attempted first-degree murder, conspiracy, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and possession of a firearm by a felon, per the same account.
Prior Manslaughter Conviction Surfaces in Mills' Record
The report notes that Mills was previously convicted of felony voluntary manslaughter on April 11, 2022, in Alamance County, and was sentenced to an active minimum of 57 to 81 months in prison for that offense.
