A 33-year-old Greensboro man has died three weeks after his motorcycle collided with a Guilford County Sheriff's Office vehicle at a busy North Carolina 68 intersection, and police have now released new details pinning the cause on a failed left turn. Tre'Shaun Moyer died on September 11 from injuries sustained in the August 24 crash, according to the Greensboro Police Department.
According to an update released by the City of Greensboro on September 16, Moyer was traveling northbound on N.C. 68 and attempted to turn left onto the Interstate 40 East ramp without a protected turn arrow. In doing so, he failed to yield the right-of-way to the oncoming sheriff's office vehicle, which had a green light. The update described the signal conditions and right-of-way, as first reported by Greensboro News and Record.
The crash happened around 10:01 p.m. on August 24 at the intersection of N.C. 68 and Albert Pick Road, according to WFMY-TV. The collision forced emergency crews to shut down both northbound and southbound lanes of N.C. 68 until early the following morning, a closure that snarled a corridor that links I-40 traffic to Piedmont Triad International Airport. Both drivers were transported to local hospitals following the wreck, per the News and Record's reporting.
Investigation Led by City Crash Unit
The Greensboro Police Department's Crash Reconstruction Unit responded directly to the scene the night of the crash and has continued to lead the investigation into the collision, the city's update confirms. Police have not disclosed the name or condition of the driver of the sheriff's department vehicle, according to the News and Record.
Moyer's death was reported in a news release from the Greensboro Police Department. A GoFundMe campaign launched on September 2 on behalf of his family.
