A 76-year-old mother and her 58-year-old son who are experiencing homelessness have not been seen by family since May, and Greenville County deputies are now asking the public for help finding them. Jo Ann Davis and Willie Moore were last known to be in the area of the 7000 block of Augusta Road, with Moore also reported around the 700 block of Easley Bridge Road. Deputies say the pair are not believed to be in immediate danger, but their four-month absence has prompted a public appeal for information.
The Greenville County Sheriff's Office is asking for help locating Davis and Moore, according to FOX Carolina News. Davis is described as five feet three inches tall and about 140 pounds, with blue eyes and gray hair. Moore stands about six feet tall and weighs around 230 pounds, also with blue eyes and gray hair. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Greenville County Sheriff's Office at 864-271-5210 or Crime Stoppers of Greenville at 864-23-CRIME.
Two Locations
Davis was last seen in the 7000 block of Augusta Road, while Moore was reported there and in the 700 block of Easley Bridge Road. Deputies have not indicated why the case took months to surface publicly, and the reason for the gap between the May sighting and this month's appeal remains unclear.

An Aging, Growing Unhoused Population
Davis and Moore's disappearance comes amid homelessness across the Upstate. The Upstate Continuum of Care counted 1,667 people experiencing homelessness in January 2024, according to the South Carolina Interagency Council on Homelessness's 2025 State of Homelessness report. Statewide, that same Point-in-Time Count included people living unsheltered.
Local shelters offer some of the few structured touchpoints for people in their circumstances. Miracle Hill Ministries runs the 153-bed Greenville Rescue Mission on West Washington Street along with Shepherd's Gate for women and children, and its Upstate facilities provided more than 123,000 shelter beds in 2025, per Miracle Hill Ministries. United Ministries operates the Place of Hope day shelter in Greenville's West End, where unhoused residents can access hygiene facilities, laundry, mail service, device charging, and case management aimed at helping people obtain identification and permanent housing, according to United Ministries.
City and State Responses to a Widening Crisis
Greenville city officials have moved to address the broader trend. In July 2025, the city launched Greenville Together, a community-wide push that placed more than 100 households and 160 individuals into housing within its first seven months while committing $1 million toward homeless support initiatives through 2026, the City of Greenville says. Roughly 46,000 households across Greater Greenville are considered cost-burdened, spending more than 30 percent of their income on housing, a pressure that local housing advocates point to as a key driver of ongoing homelessness, as Hoodline has previously reported.
At the state level, lawmakers introduced Bill 112, known as the Help Find the Missing Act, in January 2025. The measure would bar law enforcement agencies from enforcing waiting periods before taking missing persons reports and would require prompt entry of those cases into national databases, according to the South Carolina Legislature. Separately, SLED maintains an Endangered Person Notification System under state law that can broadcast statewide alerts when a missing adult is confirmed to have a cognitive impairment or dementia, though deputies have not indicated whether that system applies in Davis and Moore's case.
The search for Davis and Moore follows a separate Upstate missing persons case Hoodline covered this week, in which Oconee County deputies searched for a Laurens County man last seen near Salem after traveling from Greenville. For now, anyone with information on Davis or Moore's whereabouts is urged to come forward as deputies continue working to locate them.
