A 52-year-old Greenville man was taken into custody during a traffic stop last Thursday, the culmination of a three-month investigation that began after Indiana State Police investigators received a tip from someone living out of state. Joseph A. Jackson now sits in the Floyd County Jail facing seven preliminary Level 6 felony counts of possession of child sexual abuse material and one preliminary Level 6 felony count of bestiality.
According to WBIW, the investigation traces back to June, when Indiana State Police investigators first opened the case after receiving information from an out-of-state resident. By July, investigators had seized a cellular device belonging to Jackson in Greenville, setting the stage for a digital forensic examination.
That forensic work led investigators to obtain both a search warrant for Jackson's Greenville residence and an arrest warrant for Jackson himself. On September 17, investigators executed the search warrant at his home the same day Jackson was pulled over in a traffic stop and taken into custody, per the same account. He was remanded to the Floyd County Jail that day.
A Multiagency Task Force Behind the Arrest
Jackson's arrest was carried out by the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which the report notes includes investigators from the Indiana State Police, the Jeffersonville Police Department, the Scott County Sheriff's Office and the Clark County Sheriff's Office. The Floyd County Sheriff's Office assisted in the operation, the outlet reports.
The task force is overseen by the Indiana State Police and functions as a multiagency unit investigating and prosecuting internet-based sexual exploitation or enticement of children, the article states.
