Bras for the Cause raises money to help Hunt County fight cancer.
The prevention-focused piece of the campaign is aimed at software that tracks up to 10 years of a patient's breast cancer screening history, accessible through both the hospital's mammography center and its mobile mammography coach. The campaign also includes a prevention-focused component. That coach now brings 3D mammography equipment to rural communities across Hunt County.
A Free Resource Named for a Local Volunteer
Bras for the Cause also continues to support Janiece's Closet, which provides wigs, prostheses, mastectomy bras, and compression garments to cancer patients at no charge, per the Herald-Banner. Hunt Regional Healthcare describes the dedicated fitting room, known there as Janice's Closet, as the creation of local businesswoman Janeen Cunningham and a team of volunteers, named in memory of longtime volunteer Janice Weldon, who died in 2010.
A 2023 Bras for the Cause event raised about $107,000.
Countywide Support Beyond Downtown Greenville
The campaign's reach extends well past downtown Greenville. Wolfe City High School's Student Council donated 100% of proceeds from its annual Pink Out t-shirt sales in September 2024 and again in September 2025 to Bras for the Cause, according to Wolfe City ISD's own posts. The Rotary Club of Greenville also awarded community grant funding to Hunt County Bras for the Cause in June 2026, part of $69,000 in total civic giving the club distributed to local nonprofits and student scholarships that year.
Local medical practices have gotten competitive about it, too. Texas Breast Specialists, which has offices in Rockwall and Greenville, launched a campaign in September 2026 in which every dollar donated counts as one vote for its entry in the handcrafted bra contest, according to a fundraising page on GoFundMe.
Why the Screening Push Matters Locally
Rural access presents another challenge in the county. State officials noted during a presentation at Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville that expanding high-speed internet access in rural Hunt County is vital for allowing local families to reach online healthcare services and telemedicine, a point Hoodline previously reported in connection with Hunt County's digital divide.
With the October 8 date approaching, attention turns to the decorated-bra exhibit, voting at downtown venues, and turnout.
