Four people ended up in the hospital after a head-on collision Tuesday night on Cape Horn Road in York County, an accident so severe that rescue crews had to cut a driver free from the wreckage. The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of Cape Horn Road near Steinfelt Road, leaving the vehicles involved severely damaged.
According to WGAL, crews used hydraulic cutters and spreaders to free one of the drivers, who was confined inside their vehicle. All four injured people were transported to York Hospital following the crash. The station's report notes that the vehicles involved sustained heavy damage in the collision.
Road Closed While Police Investigated
Cape Horn Road was shut down for an extended time while police carried out their investigation into the collision, before it eventually reopened. The report does not specify what caused the crash, nor does it identify the people involved or detail the severity of their injuries.
Southern Area Fire and Emergency Rescue reported that four people were hospitalized following the collision, adding, “Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved.”
Not the First Serious Wreck on This Stretch
This isn't the first time this year that Cape Horn Road has been the site of a major crash. Back in June, a two-vehicle collision near Old Dutch Lane in Lower Windsor Township was reported at 11:29 p.m., according to Daily Voice. In that incident, both vehicles became heavily involved in fire, though all occupants managed to escape before emergency crews arrived. That stretch of Cape Horn Road remained closed for an indefinite period afterward due to damage from the crash and the fire, Daily Voice reported.
Tuesday's collision has since cleared, with Cape Horn Road back open to traffic. No further details about what led to the head-on crash have been released.
