The pizza and wings joint that once anchored 1050 Hilliard Rome Rd. has gone dark, and a Delaware-based smash burger chain is already moving equipment into the space for a fall debut. OH Pizza & Wings closed the storefront in early 2026, and Smash Shack Burger Company now plans to open its first new physical location there this fall.
OH Pizza & Wings had been listed as closed on the food delivery platform Uber Eats as of January 23, 2026, marking a concrete point when the location stopped taking delivery orders. The closure was first reported by 614Now, which noted that no reason for the shutdown has been made public. The OH Pizza brand has historically run several Central Ohio sports bars and eateries beyond the Hilliard location, including OH Pizza & Brew at 88 E. Broad St. downtown and another OH Pizza & Wings outpost at 18 Dillmont Dr. in Northern Woods, both of which Hoodline previously featured in coverage of top Columbus wing spots back in 2019.
A Delaware Burger Brand Expands West
Smash Shack opened its doors in September 2023 at 81 Lake St. in downtown Delaware, and the Hilliard-Rome storefront will mark its first new brick-and-mortar location outside that original spot, per a company social media post cited by 614Now. In an August 29, 2026 update, Smash Shack announced that kitchen equipment delivery was scheduled for the following week and that active hiring was underway for the new site. The chain already operates a mobile burger unit alongside its original restaurant, and in July it stationed that mobile unit at Sand Bar Station on Potter Street to serve late-night weekend crowds in Delaware.
The menu that's headed to Hilliard centers on smash burgers, wings, loaded fries and more. Smash Shack builds its burgers with 100% Ohio-raised Certified Angus Beef seared on Martin's Potato Rolls or Mediterra Bakehouse buns, topped with greenhouse-grown lettuce and Kaiser pickles. Its waffle fries, Bavarian pretzel bites and double-fried jumbo chicken wings are cooked exclusively in 100% pure beef tallow rather than commercial vegetable oils, a method the brand promotes as central to its flavor and crispiness.
Weekday Deals and a Crowded Corridor
The chain has built weekday carryout traffic around recurring promotions, including $5 Certified Angus Coney Dogs made with house-made Ohio Angus coney sauce on Mondays and $1 double-fried jumbo wings on Tuesdays. Those deals will likely follow Smash Shack into its new Hilliard-Rome Road home, though the brand won't have the corridor to itself. The incoming location will compete directly with Pine Coast Burgers & Ice Cream, an existing smash burger and ice cream spot operating at 3229 Hilliard Rome Rd., according to a video from Step Out Columbus.
Hilliard Rome Road has seen a wave of dining turnover in recent months. Mediterranean chain Cava picked the corridor for its Central Ohio launch, opening at 1790 Hilliard Rome Rd. in April, as Hoodline reported in coverage of Cava's Central Ohio growth. And New Orleans-style cafe chain Beignets & Brew opened its debut Ohio location at 2495 Hilliard Rome Rd. in the Silver Horn Center this August, taking over a former gourmet cookie shop space, according to Hoodline's earlier report on the beignet chain's Hilliard debut. Between the shuttered pizzeria, the incoming smash burger concept, and the recent arrivals of Cava and Beignets & Brew, the stretch of Hilliard Rome Road is quickly reshaping into one of western Franklin County's busier fast-casual dining strips.
