A man was beaten during an early-morning burglary on the 8500 block of Hedges Way in Hollywood Hills West on Thursday, before three suspects fled the scene in a dark-colored Tesla. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel treated the victim at the scene and released him, and police have not released any suspect descriptions.
According to KTLA, Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to a 911 call reporting a burglary around 12:05 a.m. Thursday and found that three suspects had broken into the home and assaulted a man inside before running off. It remained unclear whether the victim was the homeowner or a resident of the property, and officers did not find any suspects still at the home when they arrived. A witness told KNN that the suspects were seen leaving in the dark-colored Tesla, and video captured the injured victim sitting outside the residence speaking with officers afterward. A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson confirmed the burglary response to the outlet.
A Day After a Prowler Targeted Tarantino's Home
The Hedges Way assault happened one day after an alleged hot prowl burglary attempt at Oscar-winning director Quentin Tarantino's Hollywood Hills home, per KTLA's reporting. According to the Los Angeles Times, LAPD officers responded on September 9 to a reported hot prowl at Tarantino's home on the 7400 block of Woodrow Wilson Drive, where a suspect dressed in black attempted to enter a second-story window before fleeing. LAPD officials said the suspect had left the area by the time officers arrived, and it was unclear whether Tarantino was home at the time. Officers completed a trespass report after the intruder got away, the Times reported.
It was not the filmmaker's first brush with a home intrusion. The Times notes that Tarantino, known for directing Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, previously confronted two intruders inside his Hollywood Hills mansion during a middle-of-the-night break-in in December 2018, which LAPD also responded to as a hot prowl burglary. Those intruders fled with stolen jewelry and other property, per the same account. A neighbor separately reported that the resident of the Hedges Way home had been beaten during Thursday's break-in.
A Secluded Hillside Enclave With a Pattern of Break-Ins
A listing for 8515 Hedges Way describes the property as being in the Sunset Strip area. The neighborhood has seen a string of similar incidents in recent months. In a nearby Laurelmont Drive break-in last month, four masked intruders smashed a rear door and ransacked a home before fleeing ahead of police. Earlier in the year, LAPD officers conducted late-night searches after separate mansion break-ins on North Rising Glen Road in January and February, where masked intruders smashed glass to get inside. In April, a 24-hour burglary spree across the San Fernando Valley and Hollywood Hills left one homeowner injured after confronting an intruder and resulted in $100,000 in stolen jewelry.
Suspect Vehicle Choice Reflects a Broader Pattern
The suspects' use of a Tesla to flee Hedges Way is not linked here to a broader burglary tactic. Per the Safety Host Unit, security providers use discreet electric and Tesla patrol vehicles.
Citywide Crime Trends Offer Broader Context
The Hedges Way incident comes even as citywide burglary numbers have trended downward. Mayor Karen Bass and LAPD officials reported in May that residential and commercial burglaries in Los Angeles were down 30 percent year-to-date compared to 2025, following focused operations against organized theft networks that produced over 100 burglary-related arrests in the preceding month, according to CBS News. LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell also released the department's 2025 Annual Crime Data Report in February, showing a 19 percent drop in homicides compared to 2024 — the lowest annual total since 1966, with 68 percent of 2025 homicide cases cleared.
What Suspects Could Face If Caught
Under California Penal Code Sections 459 and 460, entering an inhabited structure with intent to commit theft or a felony constitutes first-degree residential burglary, a felony punishable by two, four, or six years in state prison, according to the Shouse Law Group. First-degree burglary also counts as a strike under California's Three Strikes Law. No suspects have been apprehended in connection with the Hedges Way break-in, and police have not released descriptions of the three people involved.
