Breezy trade winds and increasing showers are expected across Hawaii Wednesday.
Windy Trades Build Through Friday
The bigger weather story is developing south of the Big Island, where Tropical Depression Fifteen-E is expected to strengthen quickly. The National Weather Service says the system could reach hurricane strength near the Big Island Friday and Saturday, bringing potentially damaging winds and heavy flooding rainfall, although the track remains uncertain.
Trade winds are expected to strengthen, with showers increasing across the state.
Weekend Impacts Remain Uncertain
The system could bring impacts across Hawaii through the weekend. The tropical system is expected to turn west Sunday, but a slight track deviation could bring flooding to other islands, where localized strong winds are also possible.
The current Flood Watch runs from Wednesday afternoon through Saturday afternoon for parts of Maui, Molokai, Lanai and the Big Island. A Small Craft Advisory is also posted for several Maui and Big Island waters, while south-facing surf is expected to build Friday into the weekend and east-facing shores remain rough under strong trade winds.
More Typical Trades May Return Next Week
More typical trade-wind weather is expected early next week. That is a sharper turn from Hoodline’s Monday forecast, which was watching a weaker tropical disturbance before the system redeveloped and intensified.
