Houston is forecast to reach a high near 92 degrees Tuesday, with a stray afternoon storm possible. The bigger weather shift arrives Wednesday, when rain chances begin climbing across the region.
Tuesday Brings Heat, Wind And A Few Storms
Tuesday will be partly sunny with southwest winds and gusts up to 15 or 20 mph. Rain chances range from 10% to 20%, and a stray afternoon storm is possible.
Temperatures may ease into the upper 80s during the afternoon, but it will still feel warm and increasingly humid. The greater heavy-rain concern is east of Houston or near and east of I-45.
Wednesday: High Near 91, Storms Possible
Wednesday is expected to bring a high near 91 degrees, with showers and thunderstorms possible.
That wetter pattern strengthens Thursday and Friday. Rain chances rise to 70% Thursday and 80% Friday, while daytime highs slip from around 91 degrees Thursday to 88 degrees Friday under increasing cloud cover.
Heavy Rain Risk Builds Late Week
The forecast calls for showers and thunderstorms at times from Thursday through Saturday, with locally heavy rain possible. The Houston-area forecast discussion estimates 2 to 4 inches of rain across southeast Texas, with higher totals possible farther north and west.
Intense downpours could bring temporary street flooding to urban and low-lying areas. Where the heaviest rain falls remains uncertain, so drivers and residents with outdoor plans should follow forecast updates as the week progresses.
What Heavy Rain Could Mean for Houston
Rainfall intensity can matter for urban and low-lying areas: during a separate Houston-area rain event in June 2026, NWS meteorologist Cody Lindsey told Houston Public Media that rates above 2 inches per hour could lead to flooding in those areas. That example is not a prediction of which streets this forecast could affect. Residents can check rainfall totals and channel status, and sign up for rainfall or water-level alerts by text or email through the Harris County Flood Warning System; its readings are a monitoring resource, not a street-by-street flood prediction. The National Weather Service Houston/Galveston Storm Data archive records widespread flooding in Houston and surrounding areas on October 31, 2015. That is a separate historical event and does not establish what impacts this weekend’s forecast may bring.
Cooler Weekend Comes With More Storms
Friday night and Saturday look especially unsettled, with showers and thunderstorms likely and highs near 85 degrees Saturday. Sunday stays mostly cloudy with a high around 83 and another 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms.
Monday brings a modest cooldown to about 81 degrees, but rain chances remain in the forecast. In other words, Houston may finally get a break from the worst of the heat, though the trade-off is a notably soggy start to October.
No Land Alerts, But Gulf Winds Pick Up
No land-based watches or warnings are in effect for the Houston area. Boaters should use extra caution Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday evening, when southeast winds and Gulf seas are expected to increase.
