The chorus itself traces back to November 11, 1946, when it was chartered as the Houston chapter of SPEBSQSA after Walter Jenkins organized a preliminary meeting the previous month at Houston's Rice Hotel that drew more than 150 men. W.H. Anderson, who had moved from Tulsa to Houston, worked with O.C. Cash to start a chapter, according to the Houston Tidelanders. That founding links the local chapter directly to the barbershop movement's origins, since the parent Barbershop Harmony Society itself was founded in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1938 as SPEBSQSA before rebranding in 2004, per the Houston Tidelanders.
Champion Quartets Headline the Bill
Three and a Half Men are identified as 2024 Barbershop Harmony Society champions. The Ladies bring their own pedigree to the Spring stage, having won the Sweet Adelines International Quartet Championship in 2023, per the Houston Tidelanders.
The chorus is also recognizing Houston's only International Gold Medal Champion Quartet, The Innsiders, marking the 50th anniversary of their 1976 title. The Houston Tidelanders note that the group won the society's top honor exactly half a century before this year's celebration.

The hall was rebuilt after major flood damage from Hurricane Harvey, with an upgraded sound system, video wall, and RGB LED lighting installed as part of its restoration for community arts groups.
