Annapolis Police are investigating after apparent human remains were discovered in a wooded section of Truxtun Park on Tuesday. The Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has taken custody of the remains and is now working to identify the individual and determine a cause of death.
According to Eye On Annapolis, authorities say there is no known threat to public safety at this time, though portions of the park may remain restricted while officers continue to process the scene. The outlet reports that the investigation is ongoing, and officials have not released additional details beyond confirming the discovery and the medical examiner's involvement.
No Immediate Details on Identity or Circumstances
As of Tuesday, no information has been made public about who the remains belong to or how long they may have been in the wooded area. The same report notes that the medical examiner's office is tasked with both identifying the individual and establishing the cause of death, a process that in similar cases has taken time to resolve.

Earlier Cases at Truxtun Park
Truxtun Park itself has seen more than one such discovery in recent memory.
Back in January, Annapolis Police said a woman was found dead near a hiking trail at Truxtun Park on a Wednesday afternoon, as reported by The Baltimore Sun. A follow-up report from the same paper indicated that officers believed the woman may have succumbed to extremely cold weather, though that case is separate from Tuesday's discovery.
Elsewhere in the park, a body resembling that of an adult man was previously found in the water near the Truxtun Park boat ramp, discovered by the Annapolis Harbormaster on a Friday afternoon, according to an Annapolis Police Department news release cited by The Banner. In that case, police continued their investigation while the medical examiner's office worked to determine the cause of death.
Nearby Quiet Waters Park Case Was Ruled a Homicide
Not far from Truxtun Park, Anne Arundel County police investigated a homicide after human remains were found in a wooded area of Quiet Waters Park, according to WBAL-TV. Officers in that case found the remains around 11 a.m. in the 600 block of Quiet Waters Park Road after acting on a tip.
A preliminary examination in the Quiet Waters Park case indicated the remains were those of a young man with evidence of trauma, and officials classified the manner of death as homicide, WBAL-TV reported. As in Tuesday's Truxtun Park discovery, police said at the time there was no reason to believe there was any imminent threat to the community.
There is currently no indication that Tuesday's discovery at Truxtun Park is connected to any of these earlier cases. Annapolis Police have not released the age, identity, or any other details about the individual found in the park, and the investigation remains active.
