Huntington National Bank is putting its name in lights above Uptown Charlotte, with plans to install signature bright green signage atop the One South tower on South Tryon Street that will have the ability to change colors. The Columbus-based bank is also set to occupy four full floors inside the building as it deepens its bet on the Carolinas.
According to Queen City News, the new signage is expected to be installed in late October, with Rock Hill-based Southwood Corporation, a veteran-owned company, tasked with creating and installing it. Huntington opened its regional headquarters inside the One South office tower in 2023 and currently occupies space there; the expansion will see the bank occupy all of the 39th and 40th floors, bringing its total presence to four full floors of the 40-story building.
Brant Standridge, who was elevated to president of parent company Huntington Bancshares this month after previously serving as consumer and regional banking president, said the signage addition and planned expansion reflect the bank's commitment to the Carolinas and the region's importance to its long-term strategy, per the same report. He added that Huntington serves individuals, businesses and communities through local relationships and a people-first, customer-centered approach. Standridge is a former BB&T executive, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.
A Tower With Deep Charlotte Roots
Trent Holland said Huntington will add its name to its regional headquarters and grow its Charlotte footprint, and that the bank is deepening its roots in North Carolina and South Carolina while expanding support for regional customers and communities, per Queen City News. One South, located at 101 South Tryon Street, is a 40-story, 503-foot Class A office tower completed in 1974 that stood as Charlotte's tallest building until 1987, according to Wikipedia. Tourmaline Capital Partners is a project collaborator.
The building encompasses 816,692 square feet of Class A office space and features direct access to Overstreet Mall, skybridge connections to surrounding buildings, and a dedicated tenant amenity floor named THREE, according to VISUALHOUSE. Hoodline previously covered the tower's ground-floor debut of Eddie V's. Global law firm Proskauer leased 8,347 square feet on the 36th floor of One South in September 2025 to establish its first Charlotte office.
Following Wells Fargo's Lead on Skyline Branding
Huntington's move follows a familiar pattern in Uptown Charlotte, where rival banks have already claimed skyline real estate. Wells Fargo installed signage on its Uptown Charlotte building in June 2025, after the Charlotte City Council approved the sign atop the 550 South Tryon tower in February 2024. That sign request included two 1,880-square-foot signs, according to WCNC.
Charlotte is described as the second-largest financial hub.
With green, color-changing letters set to crown One South by late October, Huntington is staking a visible claim in a skyline already crowded with the logos of Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Truist.
