Larry Baldwin Jr., 20, was found guilty Thursday in Duval County Circuit Court in the June 2025 shooting deaths of his father, 41-year-old Larry Baldwin Sr., and 19-year-old Rubisney Giraldo-Mina. The case followed a request for help with a broken-down pickup truck outside a Baymeadows Road laundromat and smoke shop.
According to Action News Jax, Baldwin Sr. had called his son to help repair a broken-down GMC pickup at 9550 Baymeadows Road. Baldwin Jr. arrived with Giraldo-Mina.
An Argument That Escalated Fast
According to the arrest report cited by Action News Jax, Baldwin Jr. began arguing with his father. Giraldo-Mina then intervened, and the dispute shifted to an argument between him and Baldwin Jr.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting at the Baymeadows Road location on June 21, 2025, according to the arrest report. Multiple 911 callers reported the incident, including Baldwin Jr. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department personnel pronounced both victims dead at the scene.
Handgun Found in Suspect's Pocket
When officers arrived, they detained Baldwin Jr. and removed a handgun from his front pocket, per the arrest report. He was 18 years old at the time of the shootings. More than a year later, at age 20, he sat through the trial that ended in Thursday's guilty verdict in the deaths of his father and his friend.
Court records show Baldwin Jr. is now scheduled for a status hearing ahead of sentencing on Sept. 29, just days after the verdict. What sentence he could ultimately face has not been detailed in court records made available so far.
