A Greenville County jury has convicted 44-year-old Jamal Doctor of Domestic Violence of a High and Aggravated Nature, and a judge has sentenced him to 20 years in prison. The case centers on a 2020 incident at a coin laundry on Anderson Road, where prosecutors say Doctor stole a woman's car and ran her over as she tried to stop him.
According to FOX Carolina News, Doctor rode with the victim to the coin laundry on Anderson Road on April 14, 2020, then attempted to steal her car. When the victim tried to stop him, she got caught in the driver's side door as Doctor put the vehicle in reverse and ran over her, the station reports. He fled the scene without stopping to check on her or provide aid, per the same account. Witnesses assisted the victim at the scene while law enforcement, fire crews and EMS responded, the report states.
The Greenville County Sheriff's Office investigated the case, according to the station's report. Doctor was ultimately convicted by a Greenville County jury on three counts: Domestic Violence of a High and Aggravated Nature, violation of an order of protection, and use of a vehicle without permission. Officials say Doctor violated an active order of protection that prohibited him from further abusing the victim, per the same account.
