New York City is starting Friday with mostly cloudy skies and a lingering chance of showers or thunderstorms, but the unsettled weather should clear out quickly. Temperatures will rise from the mid-70s this morning to around 82 degrees this afternoon, with a muggy feel hanging on for one more day.
The National Weather Service says the best chance for rain is before 8 a.m., followed by mostly sunny conditions through much of the day. A spotty late-day shower cannot be ruled out, especially west of the city, while northwest winds of 6 to 9 mph pick up later with occasional gusts near 20 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Weekend Brings A Much-Needed Cooldown
Saturday looks sunny and comfortable, with a high near 79 and a low around 67. Sunday will be mostly sunny and cooler, topping out near 74 before temperatures rebound slightly to around 77 on Labor Day.
The air should feel noticeably less sticky by Saturday, with humidity easing further Sunday and Monday. The new outlook is a substantive follow-up to Thursday's Hoodline forecast, shifting the focus from storm timing to a mostly dry holiday weekend.
Friday Storm Chance Stays Limited
Early downpours could briefly make sidewalks and roads slick, but the overall flash-flood threat is low and no watches, warnings or advisories are currently listed for New York City. By Saturday, Sunday and Labor Day, outdoor plans should get a much cleaner weather window, with mostly sunny skies and seasonable temperatures.
