Laredo police have identified the man found dead near the Hillside Apartments earlier this week as 31-year-old Dakota Ray Meeks. A neighbor discovered him in a vacant lot across from the apartment complex on Tuesday, and police say he appeared to be unsheltered.
The discovery was reported in the 300 block of Hillside Road, according to lmtonline.com. Police told the outlet there were no apparent signs of foul play at the scene, though Meeks’ death remains under investigation and an autopsy is still pending.
As reported by the Beaumont Enterprise, the Laredo Police Department confirmed a man had been found dead near the Hillside Apartments before releasing his identity. The station's report notes that Meeks’ family has since been notified of his death.
Neighbor Made the Discovery
According to KGNS, a neighbor was the one who found Meeks in the vacant lot before authorities arrived. That same report confirms police identified him as the man found dead near the 300 block of Hillside on Tuesday.
A separate account from El Mañana reported that Meeks’ body was already in a considerable state of decomposition, which the outlet attributed to the high temperatures Laredo has seen in recent weeks.
Investigation Continues
No cause or manner of death has been released, and police have not indicated when the investigation might conclude. For now, the case remains open pending the results of the autopsy.
