A 22-year-old Lehigh Acres man is wanted on allegations that he removed a court-ordered ankle monitor and later participated in an armed robbery, according to Gulf Coast News and Weather.
Investigators identify the man as Dwayne Williams. The reported charges include armed robbery, armed burglary, kidnapping, aggravated battery, burglary, grand theft and credit card fraud. Deputies allege that Williams and another suspect robbed a man at gunpoint and that the victim suffered significant injuries. Williams was still being sought at the time of the report.
The reported sequence began with Williams’ earlier arrest alongside Eric Sapp in connection with car burglaries and other alleged offenses. After Williams was released from jail, investigators say he cut off the electronic monitor he had been ordered to wear. The alleged robbery occurred two days after his release, according to the news report.
What the monitor allegation means
Florida law separately addresses tampering with an electronic monitoring device. A 2025 report by WCJB said a law scheduled to take effect Oct. 1 would increase penalties for monitor tampering and require automatic bond revocation in such cases. That report does not establish whether the change applies to Williams’ alleged conduct, so the effect on his case remains unclear.
A separate Southwest Florida case
The allegation is not the only recent Southwest Florida case involving a removed monitor, but the incidents are not evidence of a broader trend. In a separate Cape Coral case on April 3, WINK News reported that Dalen Brown was accused of cutting off an ankle monitor, entering a home despite a court order and hiding in a closet. That case involved an alleged home intrusion, rather than the armed robbery and kidnapping allegations reported against Williams.
The available report does not say when authorities were alerted that Williams’ monitor had been removed, whether a warrant had been issued before the alleged robbery, or whether Williams has an attorney who has responded publicly.
