Jacksonville-born comedian Lil Duval is bringing his new independent horror-comedy film home first. The Camp Duval Interactive Premiere Tour kicks off Thursday, September 10, at Cinemark Tinseltown in Jacksonville, launching a six-city run for “Camp Duval: Ain't Nobody Dying Today!” ahead of a planned global streaming release on Halloween.
According to News4JAX, the film will play in a limited theatrical engagement with AMC Theatres before debuting October 31 on Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video and campduval.com. Lil Duval, whose real name is Roland Powell, serves as executive producer and star of the project, which was produced by Swirl Films and Rich Broke Entertainment. The Jacksonville stop is a single-evening event running from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., according to event listings on Eventbrite, and will feature red-carpet arrivals, live music and a live Q&A session with the cast.
A Homecoming Rooted in Duval County
Powell was born and raised in Jacksonville and graduated from First Coast High School before moving to Atlanta, adopting his stage name as a direct tribute to Duval County, per Wikipedia. His career took off around 2001 when Cedric the Entertainer's management team picked him for a multi-city stand-up tour, leading to appearances on BET's “ComicView” and “Coming to the Stage.” He later crossed over commercially with 2018's “Smile (Living My Best Life),” featuring Snoop Dogg and Ball Greezy, which reached No. 56 on the Hot 100 and earned RIAA Platinum certification in August 2025.
The comedian's ties to his hometown run deeper than nostalgia. He returned to Raines High School in December 2024 for a pep rally and offered to cover the remaining balance of a $10,000 fundraiser so the school's marching band could travel to Miami for a state championship game, News4JAX previously reported. Just weeks before the Camp Duval tour announcement, Powell hosted the 11th annual Duval Day block party at Clanzel T. Brown Park, an event that drew thousands of attendees and required roughly 120 Jacksonville Sheriff's Office personnel for traffic and security, as Hoodline previously reported.
Cast, Crew and the Story Behind the Scares
Per the film's official website, “Camp Duval: Ain't Nobody Dying Today!” follows a fictional comedian named Duval who buys a rundown former summer camp for a comedy retreat, only to face a vengeful ghost that targets comics in absurdly ironic ways. The ensemble cast is built primarily from stand-up comedians and internet personalities, including Erica Duchess, Just Brittany, Navv Greene, Jayski, Moneybags Mafia and Tyler Chronicles.
Cast member Nod Ross plays a character named Holden and told News4JAX the project is meant to bring people together for a good time. “I want people to gather, laugh and leave having had a great time,” Ross said, according to the outlet's report. Together, the ensemble cast and creators claim more than 45 million combined social-media followers, the article notes.
Why the Team Went Independent
Swirl Films founder and CEO Eric Tomosunas said self-financing allowed the team to retain control over the film's intellectual property and distribution strategy, per the same account. Swirl Films, founded in 2001 and based outside Atlanta in a 100,000-square-foot facility, specializes in independent film and television productions. Lil Duval echoed that sentiment, saying the film is being taken directly to audiences on the creators' own terms and that he wanted to make something funny, crazy, unexpected and enjoyable.
After Jacksonville, the interactive premiere tour continues September 17 at Sun-Ray Cinema in Tampa, then September 24 at Premiere Cinemas in Birmingham, Alabama. The tour moves to Belcourt Theatre 1925 Hall in Nashville on October 8 and Belair Luxury Cinema in Detroit on October 15, before the flagship red-carpet Tara Theatre premiere in Atlanta on October 29 — just two days ahead of the film's global streaming debut on Halloween.
Producers have released an official first-look trailer, and campduval.com offers tickets, tour details and event information for each stop. A digital press room on the site also includes media assets, key art, production stills and an electronic press kit for the tour.
