A 61-year-old woman was allegedly sprayed in the face with a garden hose multiple times by a man and woman who hurled anti-immigrant slurs at her near 155th Avenue and 78th Street in Lindenwood, and now NYPD Crime Stoppers is offering up to $3,500 for information that leads to an arrest.

, the assault happened on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m. in the confines of the 106th Precinct. QNS, however, reported that the incident took place around the same time that evening but described the date as falling on a Wednesday, according to

— a discrepancy between the two accounts that remains unresolved. Both agree the victim was hit in the face with hose water more than once while walking in the neighborhood.
Police told QNS the woman sustained minor injuries when the hose struck her face and that she refused medical attention at the scene. During the assault, the male suspect and a female accomplice allegedly shouted anti-national-origin statements, including a remark identifying the victim as Indian and declaring she did not belong in the country, per the outlet’s report.
Suspects Fled on Foot, Investigation Ongoing
The two suspects ran off in an unknown direction after the attack, and no arrests had been made as of QNS’s report. The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is continuing to investigate, the outlet noted. Police describe the man as having a dark complexion with a beard and braided hair, while the woman is described as having a dark complexion and a heavy build, per the same account.

A Precinct Seeing More Reported Hate Crimes
The case comes as the 106th Precinct has recorded a rise in both hate crimes and felony assaults this year. Through September 13, the precinct had reported six hate crimes in 2026, two more than the four reported at the same point in 2025 — a 50% increase, the outlet reported. Felony assaults in the precinct were also up, with 231 reported so far this year compared to 219 at the same point last year, a 5.5% rise, per the same account.
The trend echoes a broader pattern across the city’s prosecutorial data. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office prosecuted 10 anti-national-origin hate-crime cases in 2024, compared with just one the year before — a 900% increase — even as overall hate-crime prosecutions in Manhattan dipped slightly from 114 to 101 over the same period, according to Documented. Citywide, hate-crime complaints reported to the NYPD fell 3%, from 669 in 2023 to 648 in 2024, Documented reported, though Brooklyn bucked that trend with 236 complaints in 2024, a 12% jump from the year before.
