Houston's Miller Outdoor Theatre is bringing back Festival Chicano for a 47th year, with a free three-night run starting Thursday, October 1, in Hermann Park. Little Joe y La Familia, the Tejano band, headlines Friday's show at 7 p.m.
A Free Weekend of Tejano History
According to CW39 Houston, Little Joe is a five-time Grammy winner whose music blends Tejano, country, rock and blues, and he has performed for more than seven decades. Ram Herrera opens Friday's show, and the festival takes place at Miller Outdoor Theatre, located at 6000 Hermann Park Drive. The event continues rain or shine, and covered seating requires a ticket while lawn seating on The Hill remains free and unreserved.
The three-night lineup features a range of Tejano and Chicano music. Marcos Orozco, a San Antonio native, opens the festival Thursday, according to 365 Things to Do in Houston. Little Joe y La Familia takes the stage Friday, and David Lee Garza y Los Musicales closes out the run Saturday, October 3, as reported by CultureMap Houston.

That connection gives Little Joe's appearance special weight. His 1972 recording “Las Nubes” became the official marching anthem of Cesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers movement during the height of the Chicano civil rights movement, according to the National Endowment for the Arts.
Ticketing and Venue Details
Covered seating tickets for the Friday, October 2 show become available online starting Thursday, October 1, at 10 a.m., and remain available until noon on Friday, October 2, or until they run out, per CW39's reporting. Each person age 16 and older can get up to four tickets online, and the box office opens one hour before the performance. Miller Outdoor Theatre plans to livestream the show on its website, YouTube and Facebook for those who cannot make it to Hermann Park.
Dedicated in 1923, Miller Outdoor Theatre sits on 7.5 acres in Hermann Park with a total capacity of 6,200 patrons, split between 1,705 covered fixed seats and roughly 4,500 lawn spots on The Hill, operating as the largest always-free performing arts venue program in the country. The theater's programming is funded in part by the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance.
A Multi-Genre Celebration
Festival Chicano celebrates a broad spectrum of Mexican American music traditions, incorporating rancheras, corridos, mariachi, conjunto, Tejano, big band, R&B, country and rock, according to CultureMap Houston. Organizers designed the festival to preserve, promote and protect Chicano culture through music, a mission that has carried through nearly five decades of programming at the same Hermann Park venue.
Friday opener Ram Herrera brings his own recent accolades to the bill. He won the Tejano Category at the 2025 Texas Country Music Awards, held at Billy Bob's Texas in Fort Worth in November 2025, according to the Texas Country Music Association.
