According to KTLA, the Long Beach Police Department reported a shooting on the 1900 block of Lemon Avenue at about 9:13 p.m. on Sept. 26. Officers arriving at the scene found the teenage boy and teenage girl suffering from gunshot wounds. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported both victims to local hospitals for treatment.
Boy Remains Critical as Investigation Continues
Police said the teenage boy was listed in critical but stable condition, while the teenage girl's injuries were not considered life-threatening, the outlet's report notes. Same Block Has Seen Gunfire Before
The 1900 block of Lemon Avenue has been the site of gun violence in the past, though the evidence gathered does not establish any connection between those earlier incidents and Saturday's shooting. A report from the LBCC Viking described two separate shootings near Long Beach City College's Technology and Trade Center that left one person dead and another wounded. In that account, officers found a 17-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to her lower body on the 1900 block of Lemon Avenue; she was transported to a local hospital and remained in stable condition. Police said a preliminary investigation indicated she was shot at a park and that the suspect fled before officers arrived. In the other shooting described in that report, an adult male with an upper-body gunshot wound was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
A separate incident on February 22 also drew police to the same stretch of Lemon Avenue. The Long Beach Post reported that a woman was shot during a possible gang-related shooting near Martin Luther King Jr. Park that evening. Responding officers found a vehicle with bullet holes but no victim at the scene, and an adult female victim later arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound that appeared to be non-life-threatening.
No arrests or suspect descriptions have been announced in connection with Saturday's shooting. Detectives continue to investigate, and no further details had been released as of the latest report.
