Louisville could see a challenging Saturday, but the real test comes later: temperatures are expected to climb near 97 degrees with heat index values reaching 104. Scattered showers and thunderstorms could then move through during the afternoon and evening, offering some relief but keeping outdoor plans on alert.

A Heat Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Saturday for Louisville and surrounding areas, with peak heat index values generally ranging from 100 to 107, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast calls for a 30% chance of rain, with calm winds Saturday morning and northwest winds around 5 to 7 mph later in the afternoon.

Storm Chances Rise Late Saturday

Saturday should stay mostly sunny through much of the morning, with temperatures reaching the upper 80s by midday and the mid-90s during the afternoon. Shower and thunderstorm chances increase from late afternoon into the evening, with the strongest window for isolated storms generally running from about 3 p.m. into the evening.

Most storms should be hit-or-miss, but brief gusty winds are possible. The National Weather Service says the heat remains the main concern, so residents should limit strenuous outdoor activity, drink plenty of fluids and check on older neighbors, young children and anyone without reliable air conditioning.

Sunday Brings A Noticeable Cooldown

The heat breaks quickly Sunday, when mostly sunny skies and northeast winds are expected to hold the high near 86 degrees. Sunday night should be mostly clear with a low around 65, followed by a sunny Labor Day near 90 degrees.

The warmth returns Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs near 92 and 96, respectively. For anyone needing a break from Saturday's heat, Louisville Metro lists libraries, community centers and other cooling-relief locations operating during regular hours.
