A 15-year-old girl is missing after leaving a Louisville children's shelter amid a mental health crisis, and police say they're worried about her safety. Brielle “Kyree” de Senneville Freano was last seen near Winkler Avenue and Utah Avenue, wearing a black zip-up hoodie with gray writing and baggy jeans.
The Louisville Metro Police Department is asking the public for help locating Freano, according to WLKY. LMPD's Missing Persons Unit issued an Operation Return Home alert for the teen, per a post from the Louisville Metro Police Department. Police say Freano left Home of the Innocents on Wednesday and is experiencing a mental health crisis, raising a personal safety concern for investigators.

Freano left Home of the Innocents and was last seen near Winkler and Utah avenues.
Police have asked anyone with information about Freano's whereabouts to call 502-574-5673. Operation Return Home alerts like this one are not uncommon for the department's Missing Persons Squad, which handles roughly 75 cases a year requiring that designation or a Golden Alert activation, per the Louisville Metro Police Department. Fewer than five of those cases annually involve suspected foul play.
The stakes in cases involving youth who run from residential care are well documented nationally. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children reports that runaway cases make up the overwhelming majority of missing-child cases it receives and treats every report as involving a child in active danger. The organization reports more than 480,000 recoveries since 1984, according to NCMEC. NCMEC says 17% of children missing from care who were reported to it in 2025 were identified as likely victims of child sex trafficking.
Systemic Pressures on Kentucky's Youth Care System
Placement instability has been a concern in Kentucky's foster-care system. Investigative reporting on the state's child welfare system found that more than 300 foster children were placed in temporary settings such as hotels and office buildings between January 2023 and October 2024, with nearly 40% of older teens in those placements showing runaway risk factors, according to the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting.
