Three of classic rock's most enduring road warriors are converging on the Sierra foothills next week. Lynyrd Skynyrd, Foghat and Molly Hatchet are set to take the stage at Ironstone Amphitheater in Murphys on October 2, with music scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
The show was reported by The Modesto Bee, which described it as the final scheduled show of Ironstone Amphitheater's concert season. The Bee also reports the October 2 date at the Murphys venue, and TicketSmarter lists the triple bill kicking off at 6 p.m. at Ironstone Amphitheatre at Ironstone Vineyards. As of Friday, however, TicketSmarter's own listing showed no tickets available under the selected filter criteria and advised users to broaden their filters, even as the Bee reported that limited lawn and seating tickets remained available — a discrepancy that anyone hoping to attend should sort out before making plans.
A Lineup Built on Decades of Southern Rock
Lynyrd Skynyrd's story is one of tragedy and resilience. The band formed in 1964 in Jacksonville, Florida, and built a catalog of hits including Sweet Home Alabama, Free Bird, Simple Man and Gimme Three Steps, according to the Bee's reporting. That momentum was shattered in 1977, when frontman Ronnie Van Zant, along with Steve Gaines and Cassie Gaines, were killed in a chartered plane crash. The band re-formed a decade after disbanding, with Ronnie's brother Johnny Van Zant stepping into the frontman role.
Guitarist Gary Rossington, an original crash-surviving member of the band, toured with Lynyrd Skynyrd until his death in 2023. According to Lynyrd Skynyrd's official website, a live album and DVD recorded at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium document Rossington's final performance with the group. Today's lineup, per the band's site, features Johnny Van Zant, Rickey Medlocke, Damon Johnson, Mark “Sparky” Matejka, Michael Cartellone, Robbie Harrington, Peter Keys, Carol Chase and Stacy Plunk.
Foghat and Molly Hatchet Round Out the Bill
Foghat, formed in London in 1971, has toured for more than five decades on the strength of hits like Slow Ride, Fool for the City and I Just Want to Make Love to You, the Bee reported. Founding drummer Roger Earl still anchors the band, now joined by Bryan Bassett, Rodney O'Quinn and Scott Holt. Foghat joins Lynyrd Skynyrd and Molly Hatchet for the October 2 show.
