A ShotSpotter alert just after 3 a.m. Sunday prompted Pueblo police to respond to the 100 block of South Queens Avenue, where witnesses said a man was lying in the street after being shot. He has since been identified as 50-year-old Eddie Winslow Sanders, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the City of Pueblo, the Pueblo Police Department Communication Center received the ShotSpotter alert for multiple shots at approximately 3:05 a.m. on September 27, and witnesses called in to say someone had been shot and was lying in the street. Officers arriving on scene found several people tending to the victim, per PPD. The Pueblo County Coroner later identified him as Eddie Winslow Sanders, as reported by KRDO.
A second person was also shot during the incident but left the scene before officers arrived, per PPD. That victim was later contacted by the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office and taken to a hospital, where the person is in stable condition, the station's report notes. Several witnesses were taken to the police department to be interviewed as investigators worked to piece together what happened.

The city's release and the same KRDO report place the shooting in the 100 block of South Queens Avenue. FOX21 News reported that ShotSpotter alerted police to multiple gunshots in the area of East 4th Street and North Joplin Avenue, while separately describing the fatal shooting as occurring in the 100 block of South Queens Avenue.
City's Homicide Count Climbs
City officials say the shooting marks Pueblo's 12th homicide of 2026, up from 10 homicides recorded at the same point in 2025, according to the city's release. City officials have not offered further context on the increase beyond the raw totals.
