A man shot near North Nebraska Avenue and East McEwen Avenue in Tampa died five days after the shooting, and police are now investigating his death, Tampa Free Press reported. Authorities have not publicly identified him or said what led to the gunfire.
The investigation, and what remains unknown
Officers responded shortly after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, to the intersection, according to the report. They found an adult man critically injured, began life-saving measures and continued care until paramedics took him to a hospital. He died on Sunday, September 27. Detectives are interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence, but police have not released a motive or other details about the shooting.
Other fatal shootings near Nebraska Avenue
The location has appeared in reports of other fatal shootings, but the documented cases are distinct incidents—not evidence of a trend or a link to the current investigation. WFLA reported that Tampa police investigated a fatal shooting on February 11, 2020, near Floribraska Avenue and Nebraska Avenue, a different intersection from East McEwen.
In another separate case, Tampa police said a man died after a March 31, 2025, shooting in the 10-thousand block of North Nebraska Avenue. The department said that shooting followed a dispute between an employee and a customer, and that the employee shot the customer, according to the City of Tampa. Police have not reported comparable circumstances in the East McEwen case.
