A man was shot along East Loop 820 in Fort Worth in the middle of the night Sunday, with police saying the bullet grazed his head before he was rushed to a hospital while still awake and talking. No suspect has been named, and investigators have not said what led to the shooting.
Authorities were dispatched to 2250 East Loop 820 Freeway Southbound at 2:05 a.m. Sunday for reports of a shooting, according to NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth. When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot at the scene, and the outlet reports that the bullet allegedly grazed his head.
Despite the head wound, the man was awake and alert during transport to the hospital, police said, per the same report. His current condition afterward is unknown, and no suspect information has been released, with police also reporting that no suspect is in custody.
Freeway Shootings Have Happened Before In The Area
Sunday's shooting is not the first time gunfire has struck a driver along a Fort Worth-area freeway. In 2015, North Richland Hills police arrested a 26-year-old Fort Worth man, Adam Alfred Cardinal, and charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, according to a report from The Dallas Morning News.
In that earlier case, the victim, James Lambert, was shot in the lower leg while driving in the 7600 block of Northeast Loop 820. Police said at the time that Lambert drove himself to the hospital and was listed in good condition after the shooting. There is no indication that the two incidents are connected; they are separated by more than a decade and by different stretches of the loop.
