A man was shot and killed in Allentown just before 7 p.m. Tuesday, and hours later a second shooting elsewhere in the city left another person hospitalized, police said. Investigators have not said whether the two incidents are connected, and no arrests or motive had been announced in either case as the investigation continued into Wednesday.
The fatal shooting happened around 6:53 p.m. in the 600 block of Gordon Street, according to NBC10 Philadelphia. When officers arrived, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene, per the same report. Police had not released his identity as of Wednesday.
No arrests or motives have been announced, and police said the investigation is ongoing, the station reported. The City of Allentown put out a message saying it was deeply saddened by the shootings, according to the outlet’s report.
Second Shooting Hours Later Leaves One Hospitalized
Later Tuesday evening, police responded to a second shooting that injured at least one person in Allentown, according to WFMZ. The extent of that person's injuries was unknown at the time of the report, and it is not known if the two incidents are related in any way, WFMZ noted. Separate accounts have placed the second shooting's location differently — one report described it as occurring near South Front and East Susquehanna streets, while another placed it on South Front Street near South Filmore Street.
A City That Had Been Touting Lower Crime Numbers
The shootings come after city officials had pointed to improving crime trends in Allentown. As of a year-earlier comparison, Allentown had recorded four homicides through late September, two fewer than during the same period the prior year, according to The Morning Call. The city's violent crime index was also reported to be 0.35% lower than the year before, per that same account.
The city has previously touted these kinds of gains — Allentown officials announced that crime rates, including homicides, had reached historic lows in 2024, according to the City of Allentown. The Pennsylvania UCR Program serves as the state's repository for crime statistics, though current 2026 homicide totals for Allentown were not available.
A comparable case from the prior year offers a sense of how quickly Allentown investigations can move: a fatal shooting on North Eighth Street in October 2025 killed a 24-year-old Berks County man, and two suspects were swiftly identified and arrested in that case, per The Morning Call's report. No such arrests have been announced in Tuesday's shootings, and police have said only that both investigations remain active.
