A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Friday near Landover Road and Kent Town Place in Landover, Maryland, and several others were left hospitalized. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and investigators are still working to determine what led to the wreck.
According to FOX 5 DC, the collision was reported around 2:50 a.m., though DC News Now reported that officers actually responded closer to 2:30 a.m. to the same location. Per DC News Now's account, the car was heading southbound on Landover Road when the driver lost control and struck a light pole. That report also said one passenger, a man, was ejected from the vehicle and found lying in the roadway, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Accounts of how many others were hurt vary. WJLA reported that three other adults were injured and taken to the hospital for observation of non-life-threatening injuries, while the DC News Now report said the driver and three other passengers were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Neither report has been reconciled with the other, and it remains unclear exactly how many people were in the vehicle.
Conflicting Reports on Road Closures
Details about the aftermath on Landover Road also differ between outlets. FOX 5 DC reported that southbound lanes of Landover Road remained closed as investigators worked to determine what led to the crash. DC News Now, however, reported that Landover Road was closed temporarily but had since reopened. WJLA separately noted that some lanes on Maryland Route 202 at 75th Avenue reopened just before 9:30 a.m.
As of Friday evening, police had not released the identity of the man who died, per the DC News Now report. FOX 5 DC's reporting was based on information from the Prince George's County Police Department, which has not made further public details available.
Police Seek Witnesses, Surveillance Footage
Investigators are asking anyone with information about the crash, including relevant home surveillance or dashcam footage, to call 301-731-4422. A WJLA report noted that a pedestrian died in an early-morning crash in Landover in April 2025.
No further details about the cause of Friday's crash have been released, and the investigation remains active.
