A man died early Wednesday after being struck by a UPS 18-wheeler on the eastbound access road of Loop 410 near North Vandiver Road on San Antonio's Northeast Side. Police are investigating whether he had been hit by another vehicle before the truck arrived and whether that vehicle left the scene.
Police said the truck struck the man at about 2:30 a.m. on the access road just before North Vandiver Road, according to WOAI. Officers found the victim on the roadway, and a witness told investigators he was there before the 18-wheeler reached him.
That witness account is part of the evidence investigators are reviewing as they determine whether a separate vehicle struck the man first and left the scene, News 4 San Antonio reported. Police have not released the victim's identity, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Recent Fatal Pedestrian Crashes on Loop 410
This is not the first fatal pedestrian crash to hit Loop 410 this year. The woman's injuries in the January crash were life-threatening, and she died at the scene, the outlet's report states. All north lanes of Loop 410 were temporarily closed that night as police examined the scene, a shutdown that echoes the kind of roadway disruption still playing out this week as investigators piece together Wednesday's crash.
