Houston police are investigating after a man's body was discovered inside an apartment complex on Harwin Drive in southwest Houston, with officers responding to the scene before noon Monday. The man is believed to be between 20 and 30 years old, and details about what led to his death remain limited.
According to ABC13 Houston, Houston Police Department officers responded to the 10201 block of Harwin Drive before 12 p.m. after the man's body was found inside the complex. The property is Town Park Apartments, a 340-unit community built in 1982 and managed by Indus Management Group, according to listing records reviewed by HAR.com. Investigators have not said what led to the man's death, and it remains unclear whether foul play is suspected.
A Corridor With a Long Police History
The address falls within HPD's Midwest Patrol Division, which covers roughly 18.6 square miles of southwest Houston north of Interstate 69, per the department's own beat records. This is not the first violent incident tied to the same apartment complex — in March 2005, Houston police investigated a fatal stabbing in the Town Park parking lot that led to murder charges against a 19-year-old suspect, according to city records.
Harwin Drive itself has seen a string of violent incidents in recent years. In March 2025, police and fire paramedics responded to a fatal stabbing inside an office building at 7111 Harwin Drive that resulted in murder charges against a 37-year-old man. Just months later, in October 2025, Midwest Patrol officers responded to gunfire in an alleyway in the 6600 block of Harwin Drive that left one woman dead and two men wounded during an officer-involved shooting, the city reported.
Living Conditions Have Also Drawn Complaints
Beyond public-safety concerns, residents at Town Park Apartments have raised complaints about their living conditions. Community outlet Grizzy's Hood News reported in June that tenants at 10201 Harwin Drive flagged unaddressed severe mold growth and unresolved maintenance requests, adding another layer of scrutiny to the property's management.
Farther back, in December 2023, an HPD Midwest Patrol sergeant was shot multiple times in an ambush-style attack in the 7000 block of Harwin Drive before returning fire and fatally wounding the armed suspect, according to city records. That incident underscored the heightened vigilance officers maintain along the corridor even as violent crime has eased citywide — Houston homicides dropped 17%, from 331 in 2024 to 272 in 2025, based on open records reviewed by the Houston Chronicle.
Identification Pending, Cause of Death Undetermined
Under Article 49.25 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences holds jurisdiction over medicolegal death investigations for sudden, unexpected, or violent deaths, meaning the office will handle identification and determine the man's official cause and manner of death. HPD has not released the man's identity or said whether the death is being treated as a homicide.
Harwin Drive has been the site of repeated Hoodline coverage this year, including a Harwin cigarette store robbery hunt in April and an armed store robbery in the 10300 block reported in February.
