A man was shot and killed Sunday night at an apartment complex in the Cloverleaf area of east Harris County, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded to 90 Uvalde Road, the address of the Pines of Woodforest apartment complex, where the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed the response and the death in preliminary details posted shortly after deputies arrived, as reported by the Houston Chronicle. HCSO responded with homicide detectives and crime scene investigators, according to ABC13 Houston.
Homicide detectives were examining whether the incident involved intimate partner violence, and ABC13 reports that determination is still underway.
A Complex With a Troubled History
This is not the first time law enforcement gunfire has drawn attention to the Pines of Woodforest complex. In February 2024, HCSO deputies fired more than two dozen rounds and wounded 28-year-old resident Eboni Pouncy after mistaking her for a burglar when she broke a window to get into her own locked unit, according to KHOU. That shooting led to civil rights protests and national legal representation for Pouncy.
The complex at 90 Uvalde Road is managed by Greystar Real Estate Partners, according to company listings. The address sits along a corridor that has seen other recent violence: in February, a fatal shooting in the 200 block of Uvalde Road near Woodforest Boulevard left a 17-year-old male dead and another person wounded, as Hoodline reported at the time.
Intimate Partner Violence Question
The possibility that Sunday's shooting stemmed from intimate partner violence remains under investigation.
Domestic violence counselors reported in April 2026 that roughly one in four homicides in Harris County during 2024 was linked to intimate partner violence, per KHOU.
