A man shot near North Arkansas Street somehow made his way on foot to Berry Road before he collapsed, and he later died at a hospital, Houston police say. Officers were called to 3021 Berry Road around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and found him suffering from a gunshot wound, setting off a homicide investigation that has left detectives searching for witnesses and the man's identity still unconfirmed.

According to City of Houston News, officers responding to a report of a shooting at that address located the man with a gunshot wound, and Houston Fire Department paramedics rushed him to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Investigators determined he had actually been shot near 8518 North Arkansas Street and had walked to Berry Road afterward, though how far he traveled or what happened in between has not been detailed publicly.

The man's identity remains pending notification to family members, per Houston police, and the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will handle notifying relatives once that process is complete. HPD Homicide Division detectives J. Wallschlaeger and M. Althaus are handling the case, which has been logged under police incident number 123293026.

Police Ask Public for Tips

Anyone with information has been asked to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600, or to reach Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. No suspect description or details about a possible motive have been released.

This is not the first deadly shooting to hit the Berry Road corridor. In June 2025, Houston police investigated the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man at 605 Berry Road, and FOX 26 Houston reported that officers found him with multiple gunshot wounds and that he was pronounced dead at the scene, with two unknown suspects last seen fleeing in a dark gray or black SUV. Years earlier, in October 2022, Houston police reported a fatal shooting at 2510 Berry Road that eventually led to charges against a suspect accused in the death of Jose Espinoza. There is nothing in the current investigation tying Tuesday's shooting to either of those earlier cases.

Homicides Trending Down Citywide

The Berry Road shooting comes as Houston's overall violent crime numbers have been moving in a more encouraging direction. HPD reported a 36.4% drop in homicides during the first quarter of 2026 compared with the same stretch in 2025, according to Houston Public Media. The outlet also noted that HPD tallied 49 murders in the first three months of 2026, while TxDOT recorded 67 roadway deaths over that same period — and that citywide, overall violent crime fell 18.9% from 2024 to 2025, a year in which Houston still logged 268 murders alongside 291 traffic fatalities.

Tuesday's case adds to a string of recent fatal shootings police have been investigating around the city, including one reported at 600 West Cavalcade Street on Sept. 18. For now, the man found on Berry Road remains unidentified, and detectives are relying on the public to help fill in what happened between North Arkansas Street and the spot where he was found.
