An 88-year-old woman was hospitalized after her car overturned Wednesday evening at Kahaloa Drive and Woodlawn Drive in Manoa Valley. The cause of the crash has not been disclosed.
KITV 4 Island News reported that the crash was reported around 7:30 p.m., firefighters freed the woman from the vehicle, and Honolulu EMS treated her at the scene before taking her to a hospital. KITV described her condition as serious, while also reporting that her injuries were characterized as non-life-threatening before transport. The station said possible factors, including speed or alcohol or drug use, had not been disclosed.
Other local rollover rescues
The Manoa Valley rescue is distinct from other vehicle-extrication incidents, but recent local examples show some of the work such rescues can involve. In a separate July 11, 2026, crash in Pearl City, Hawaii News Now reported that firefighters freed a 53-year-old driver from a flipped pickup at Moanalua Road and Ho‘omalu Street; he was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
In a separate Kaneohe incident in October 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department said its crews stabilized an overturned vehicle and used hydraulic rescue tools to free the trapped occupant. Those accounts describe other crashes, not the circumstances or equipment used in Manoa Valley, and a few separate incidents do not establish a trend.

For a wider road-safety comparison, KHON2 reported that Oʻahu had recorded 27 traffic fatalities through Sept. 8, 2026, compared with 62 over the same period in 2025. That year-to-date count covers fatal crashes across the island; it does not indicate what caused this nonfatal Manoa Valley crash.
It remains unknown what mechanical, medical or other factor, if any, led the car to overturn at Kahaloa Drive and Woodlawn Drive. No later update on the woman's condition is included in the available report.
