Mark Wahlberg showed up at Suncoast Hotel & Casino to help mark a milestone in the Summerlin property's yearslong makeover, mingling with guests at a VIP event inside the resort's brand-new center bar. The actor and businessman's appearance capped years of construction that has touched nearly every corner of the casino, from the gaming floor to the front desk.
Exactly when Wahlberg showed up depends on who you ask. According to KSNV, he stopped by on Tuesday to help celebrate the resort's transformation, while the Las Vegas Review-Journal described his appearance as a surprise guest spot during a VIP celebration held Tuesday night. Either way, Boyd Gaming held the event at the new BarSC Center Bar specifically to showcase the property's new look, per KSNV, and guests enjoyed cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and an exclusive look at the reimagined spaces.
A Property Transformed Since 2023
Suncoast executives have been remodeling the property since 2023, aiming to enhance ballrooms, the front desk, the bingo hall and dining options across the resort, the station's report notes. Rick Goldstein, Suncoast's senior vice president of operations and general manager, said the team overhauled the entire casino floor and sportsbook as part of that push. Goldstein framed the work as overdue after a long run for the resort, noting that the Suncoast has been around 25 years and, in his words, “we needed to upgrade the facility to have a really great experience” for the community and customers.
The resort sits at the corner of Alta Drive and Rampart Boulevard, a fixture of the Summerlin neighborhood since it opened in 2000. Boyd Gaming first laid out its total renovation plans back in March 2024, saying at the time it had proudly served the neighborhood for nearly 25 years, according to an investor announcement from Boyd Gaming. That plan called for a new sportsbook near the casino's east entrance in time for football season, along with a contemporary 70-seat raised center bar and a near-doubling of the property's meeting-space capacity.
What's Open, and What's Still Under Construction
Much of that vision has already materialized. Suncoast unveiled a stadium-style sportsbook in 2024, followed by a new bingo room in 2025, and most recently a food hall and the 70-seat BarSC in July, according to the Review-Journal's report on the project. The new bingo room spans 9,170 square feet with 406 seats, while the sportsbook features a 15½-foot-tall wraparound HD screen above more than 60 leather seats, a 55-foot bar and a dozen betting kiosks, the same outlet reports.
Not everything is finished. Remodeling remains in progress on more than 400 hotel rooms and the bowling center, KSNV reports, and the Review-Journal's account likewise noted that renovations of the hotel rooms, gift shop and bowling center were still ongoing. One expectation floated in that report was that the hotel-room work would be done by the end of the year, though that timeline was described as an expectation rather than a firm date. Suncoast's own renovations page lists the first half of the bowling center as now open.
A Two-Year Overhaul With Real Costs on the Casino Floor
Boyd Gaming originally pitched the propertywide changes as a roughly two-year project completed in phases, according to the Review-Journal's earlier coverage of the announcement. That timeline came with tradeoffs for day-to-day operations: the company told investors that renovation work had moved into heavily trafficked areas of the casino floor during the first quarter of 2026, and executives said they expected the disruption to continue until the project wrapped up late in the third quarter, according to Yogonet's report on Boyd Gaming's first-quarter results. The company's broader Southern Nevada capital plans centered on a full redesign of the Suncoast casino floor alongside upgraded food and beverage offerings and public spaces.
Suncoast's own renovation page describes the goal as a refined, modern experience built around state-of-the-art gaming, diverse dining and premium amenities. That same page lists three additional spaces, Horizon, Sunrise and the Grand Ballroom, as under construction and expected to open in August. Between the sportsbook, bingo room, food hall and new center bar that have already debuted, and the hotel rooms and bowling center still being finished, Wahlberg's visit landed at a moment when the Summerlin casino is visibly closer to the finish line than the starting gate.
