A masked man wearing a hoodie and gloves walked into Floreria Petalos de Oro on East Houston Avenue in Visalia late Saturday afternoon, pulled a gun on a clerk, grabbed cash from the register and disappeared before officers could catch him. Police say the suspect had fled by the time officers arrived, and investigators are piecing together what happened inside the small flower shop.
According to KMPH, Visalia police officers responded to the shop at about 5 p.m. Saturday after the robbery was reported. The suspect had already fled by the time officers arrived, and police say he entered the store in a hoodie, mask and gloves before displaying a gun at the clerk and taking cash from the business. The station reports the case has since been forwarded to the Visalia Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit, a squad made up of one sergeant, seven detectives and two full-time civilian investigators who handle felonies against persons, according to the City of Visalia.
Floreria Petalos de Oro is located at 1115 East Houston Avenue. Police have not disclosed the exact amount of cash taken, and the suspect's identity remains unknown as detectives continue working the case.
What Charges the Suspect Could Face
If caught, the suspect would face serious legal exposure. Commercial robbery of an open business is classified as second-degree robbery under California Penal Code Section 211, carrying a base sentence of 2, 3 or 5 years in state prison, according to the Shouse Law Group. Because the man allegedly displayed a firearm during the robbery, he could also face a 10-year consecutive sentence enhancement under Penal Code Section 12022.53(b), which can apply to personal use of a firearm, including menacingly displaying it, per Eisner Gorin LLP.

Visalia police have leaned on targeted enforcement to protect local businesses before. During a late-2024 “Holiday Madness” commercial enforcement detail, officers made over 100 arrests and recovered $35,000 in stolen merchandise to safeguard retailers, based on a department post on Facebook.
