Six Massillon Washington football players are still suited up for the state's No. 1-ranked team this week, but only because a Stark County judge stepped in first. The players, who transferred into the program from schools including Archbishop Hoban, St. Vincent-St. Mary, Euclid and Nordonia, were granted a temporary restraining order keeping them eligible for at least the next two weeks while a bigger legal fight over Ohio's transfer rules plays out.
The order, granted by Stark County Common Pleas Judge Frank Forchione, keeps the players eligible, according to Cleveland.com. A preliminary injunction hearing is scheduled for the morning of October 6, 2026, to decide whether the players stay eligible for the rest of the season and any postseason run.
At the center of the dispute is OHSAA Bylaw 4-7-2, which makes transfer student-athletes ineligible for the second half of the regular season and all postseason play once their team hits the five-game mark, unless the athlete qualifies for one of twelve administrative exceptions, according to the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Massillon is 5-0 and ranked No. 1 in both the Northeast Ohio Top 25 and the Ohio Big 25 state rankings, meaning that threshold has already been crossed. A separate bylaw, 4-7-3, bars any student who transfers mid-season after already competing in a contest from playing at their new school at all, per the same OHSAA rulebook.
Who's Affected and Where They Came From
The six players named in the case span multiple grades and positions. Sophomore defensive back Dey'Veair Adams and sophomore Gary Yeager III both transferred from St. Vincent-St. Mary, with Yeager rushing for 226 yards and two touchdowns in a 23-21 win over St. Edward this season. Junior tight end Da'Shun Williams came from Euclid, and junior tackle Micah Walker transferred from Nordonia; the temporary restraining order specifically keeps Williams and Walker eligible alongside their teammates.
Senior running back and linebacker Brayton Feister, who has committed to Oregon, and junior edge rusher Brydon Feister both transferred from Archbishop Hoban in Akron.

Massillon's 2026 slate includes seven home games at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium, capped by the annual regular-season finale against rival Canton McKinley, one of high school football's premier matchups. This week, the Tigers are scheduled to host Clarkson Football North at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium on Friday night. The timing gave the program an unexpected break during the TRO window, too: Massillon's scheduled October 2 opponent, Farrell High School of Pennsylvania, canceled due to player injuries, and the team announced it is not seeking a replacement, according to On3.
The October 6 Hearing
Massillon's case is not happening in isolation. In a separate September 2026 dispute, Cincinnati Elder High School senior wide receiver Andrew Lyman was ruled ineligible starting in Week 6 after transferring from Kings High School without meeting an exception, even though Elder was 5-0 and ranked No. 2 in Ohio at the time, according to BroBible. Earlier in September, St. Charles also sought an injunction against OHSAA in a soccer division classification dispute, as Hoodline previously reported.
The families' case will be considered at the October 6 hearing, which is set to address whether the players remain eligible for the rest of the season and any postseason run.
