A Mebane woman told deputies her estranged husband broke a front window, climbed into her home and punched her in the face before throwing her to the ground and threatening to kill her. The confrontation unfolded Thursday at a residence in the 200 block of Alberta Street, and it ended with 44-year-old Richard Lamar Ruffin behind bars on four charges and no bond listed.
Deputies Say Ruffin Forced His Way Inside
According to the Alamance County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a reported family disturbance at the Alberta Street address on Thursday, September 17. The victim told deputies that Ruffin, her estranged husband, broke a front window and entered her home without permission. Once inside, deputies said, he became verbally aggressive before the confrontation turned physical.
The woman told deputies that Ruffin punched her in the face, threw her to the ground and threatened to kill her, according to the sheriff's office. An arrest warrant accused Ruffin of going to the house specifically to terrorize his ex-wife, and the woman he is accused of attacking is described as the daughter of Ruffin's ex-wife. She suffered swelling in her face and bruises on her legs, per the same warrant.
Witnesses Interviewed Before Arrest
Deputies spoke with witnesses about the incident before taking Ruffin into custody, the sheriff's office said. He was then transported to the Alamance County Detention Center to be processed on the charges. Ruffin is a resident of Green Level, according to the arrest warrant.
Ruffin faces felony breaking and entering to terrorize, along with misdemeanor domestic criminal trespass, assault on a female and injury to real property, deputies said. The Burlington Times-News also reported on the arrest, noting the same four charges. No bond was listed for Ruffin following his booking, the sheriff's office said.
