A medical helicopter was requested to a crash scene in rural Darke County late Saturday night, after a collision was reported around 10:12 p.m. in the 11000 block of Marshall Road near State Route 47. Officials are still investigating what caused the crash and how many people were injured.
Darke County dispatchers reported the crash location and time, and confirmed that CareFlight was requested to the scene, according to WHIO-TV. The outlet reports that officials had not yet determined the number of people injured or what led to the collision as of Saturday night, and that News Center 7 will continue following the story as more details emerge.
CareFlight’s Regional Role
CareFlight serves severely injured or ill patients, according to Premier Health. The service was established in 1983 as Southwest Ohio's first air medical transportation program and now maintains three helicopters stationed across the region, serving more than 300 emergency agencies across 17 counties in Ohio and Indiana, according to the same source.

Coordinating the response to Saturday night's crash was the Darke County 9-1-1 Communications Center, which manages emergency calls across 606 square miles and 1,292 miles of roadways as the dispatch hub for the Sheriff's Office, five village police departments, nine EMS agencies, and 17 fire departments, according to the Darke County Sheriff's Office. Darke County ranks as the ninth-largest county in Ohio by land area, with a population of roughly 53,300 residents.
Part of a Rough Month on Darke County Roads
Saturday's crash adds to a string of severe collisions across the county this month. Bradford Man, 23, Killed after his vehicle hit a utility pole and overturned on Horatio Harris Creek Road ten days earlier, with a 20-year-old passenger also injured in that rollover. Earlier in the month, two people were hospitalized after an 83-year-old driver rear-ended a vehicle stopped to make a left turn along U.S. Route 127, a case Hoodline also covered.
Closer to home, patrol dashboard data from 2022 through early 2023 recorded 133 unbelted-occupant crashes in Darke County alone, as well as 17 serious-injury crashes and three fatal crashes.
