A 34-year-old man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after being shot near North 64th Street and West Bobolink Avenue on Milwaukee's Northwest Side around 10:35 p.m. Tuesday. No arrests have been made, and police are still trying to determine what led to the shooting.
According to the FOX6 News Milwaukee, the victim was taken to the hospital following the shooting, which the Milwaukee Police Department is investigating. Officers are seeking an unknown suspect or suspects and have asked the public for information as the circumstances leading up to the gunfire remain under investigation, per the same report.
A Familiar Stretch of Northwest Side Gunfire
The intersection sits in Milwaukee's Silver Spring neighborhood, a residential community in the 53218 ZIP code roughly 11 miles northwest of Downtown, according to Apartments.com. It falls under Milwaukee Police District 4, headquartered on West Silver Spring Drive, which patrols a 28.8-square-mile precinct home to more than 90,000 residents, per the City of Milwaukee.
Tuesday's shooting is not an isolated incident along this corridor. Hoodline previously reported that a 54-year-old was shot and wounded near North 79th Street and West Bobolink Avenue around 8 a.m. on April 7, and a 19-year-old driver was seriously injured in a road-rage shooting along West Bobolink Avenue on March 13. Just blocks north, a 53-year-old man was shot and killed during a domestic confrontation near North 64th Street and West Mill Road on January 4, a case in which the victim's son was arrested.
Citywide Drop in Violence, But Persistent Gaps
The Tuesday shooting comes even as Milwaukee has seen a broader decline in gun violence this year. Citywide non-fatal shootings and homicides both fell by approximately 30% during the first six months of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025, according to WTMJ. MPD recorded 49 homicides through June, down from 70 during the first half of last year.
Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman reported a 98% clearance rate for homicides in the first half of 2026, but the department's clearance rate for non-fatal shootings was significantly lower, at just 41%, according to CBS 58. Norman has noted that many non-fatal shootings stem from sudden petty disagreements, a dynamic that can leave investigators with fewer leads than in homicide cases. Milwaukee County Sheriff Denita Ball separately reported a 58% spike in county-level crime between the first and second quarters of 2026, describing the quarterly rise as disheartening, per the same outlet.
Violence has flared along North 64th Street for years. A 31-year-old man was fatally shot inside a residence during an argument in the 5800 block of North 64th Street near Bobolink Avenue back in April 2016, with a known suspect fleeing the scene on foot at the time, CBS 58 reported.
