Milwaukee is waking up to clear skies, calm winds and temperatures around 61 degrees early Monday, with a sunny Labor Day ahead. The city should reach a comfortable high near 76 before clouds return overnight and the weather takes a much stormier turn Tuesday night.
Sunny Holiday, Comfortable Evening
Monday stays dry from start to finish, with east winds between 0 and 10 mph and plenty of sunshine. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low around 64, setting up a warmer Tuesday that should reach about 80 degrees.
The updated outlook from the National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan is a sharper warning about midweek rain than Sunday’s earlier forecast. Tuesday begins mostly cloudy, with only a slight chance of showers after 5 p.m., but the rain odds jump quickly after sunset.
Heavy Rain And Storms Move In Tuesday Night
Showers and thunderstorms are expected Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, with a 90% chance of precipitation and roughly a quarter- to half-inch of rain possible. The strongest storms could bring intense downpours and lightning, while a few may produce damaging wind gusts.
Urban and small-stream flooding is the main concern, especially if heavy rain falls quickly. Winds outside of thunderstorms could gust to around 20 to 25 mph as warmer, more humid air moves into the region.
Lake Michigan Beach Risk Builds Tuesday
Gusty winds and rising waves may create a moderate to high swim risk at Lake Michigan beaches in Ozaukee and Sheboygan counties Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night. Milwaukee’s holiday itself looks friendly for patios, parks and other outdoor plans, but beach conditions farther north could become rough before the storm system clears.
Cooler And Drier By Thursday
Wednesday brings more showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., followed by a cooler afternoon with northwesterly winds and a low in the 50s Wednesday night. Thursday should rebound with sunshine and a high near 75, while Friday looks sunny and mild near 77.
