A 24-year-old woman told Milwaukee police she was grabbed by the neck and forced into a dark truck near North Warren Street and Brady Street on Sunday, then driven to a Pick 'n Save parking lot where she says she was assaulted before fighting off her attacker and running to safety. Police arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the case, though as of Tuesday morning no charges had been filed.
According to WISN, the woman was driven to the Pick 'n Save, where she says she was hit in the face and grabbed by the neck, an attack that left her with a chipped tooth. She told investigators she managed to fight the man off and flee the vehicle. Surveillance video reviewed by police showed the truck pulling into the parking lot and the woman running away.
Pole Cameras Track Down the Truck
Investigators leaned on nearby pole cameras, which captured the truck's license plate near East Brady Street and North Ogden Avenue. That footage allowed Milwaukee police to match the vehicle's registered owner to the description the woman had given, and she was then able to identify him as the suspect, the station's report states.
The man was driven from the initial encounter near Brady Street to a Pick 'n Save on Lyon Street, per the same account. Police obtained a search warrant after the 23-year-old man refused to provide a DNA sample, according to search warrant information cited by WISN. He was arrested and held by Milwaukee police, but no charges had been filed in the case as of Tuesday morning, and he could ultimately face an attempted second-degree sexual assault charge.
Investigation Continues
Milwaukee police are continuing to investigate the reported sexual assault, which the woman described to officers as a coordinated sequence beginning near Brady Street and ending in the Pick 'n Save lot.
