A 19-year-old wanted for months has finally been booked into the Montgomery County Detention Facility, charged with two counts of capital murder in the July shooting death of 62-year-old Alan Griffin. William Jordan Wingard was booked on September 25 and remains held without bond, becoming the second suspect charged in a killing that charging documents allege happened during a robbery.
Griffin was fatally shot in the 500 block of Woodbrook Drive, according to police, in a case originally reported by the Montgomery Advertiser, according to the Miami Herald. Officers responded to a report of a person shot at about 5:53 p.m. on July 27, as detailed by bradenton.com, and found Griffin dead at the scene. The shooting happened just before 6 p.m. that Monday, per al.com, which reports that charging documents allege both teen suspects were armed with guns when they robbed Griffin.
A Months-Long Manhunt Ends
Wingard had been on the run since the summer, and the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force issued a be-on-the-lookout order for him in late August, according to wsfa.com's report. A $2,500 reward had been offered for information leading to his location and arrest, al.com reported. Additional details about exactly how or where Wingard was ultimately captured have not yet been made public, the same al.com report notes.
A juvenile suspect, 17 years old, was arrested in August before Wingard, taken into custody by the Montgomery Police Department's SWAT team working alongside the fugitive task force. According to wsfa.com's account, court documents allege that the juvenile shot Griffin with a handgun while he and Wingard were robbing him, and that Wingard himself was armed with a deadly weapon during the encounter. That detail has not been independently verified beyond the station's report.
Charges and Custody Status
Wingard now remains held without bond at the Montgomery County Jail, per wsfa.com's reporting. He faces two counts of capital murder. Court records show Wingard does not have an attorney.
