A 34-year-old man was left bleeding heavily inside a second-floor apartment in Morrisania late Tuesday after another man stabbed him twice in the back and several more times in the left side of his torso during an argument, police said. The attacker fled the building and remains at large as of Wednesday, with no arrests made in the case.
NYPD officers from the 42nd Precinct responded to the residence at 925 Union Avenue shortly before 8:30 p.m., according to law enforcement sources cited by amNewYork. Officers found the victim inside the apartment in what the outlet described as a bloody mess, after he had argued with another man moments earlier. Police said they did not know what sparked the dispute.
EMS transported the victim to Lincoln Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. The facility, formally known as NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, is a 362-bed acute care hospital in the South Bronx designated as a Level 1 Trauma Center, according to NYC Health + Hospitals, making it one of the region's busiest emergency departments for penetrating trauma cases like this one.
Suspect Described in All-Black Clothing
The attacker was last seen wearing all-black clothing before fleeing the apartment building, per the same account. Investigators have not released additional details about the suspect's identity or his relationship to the victim, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The apartment falls within the 42nd Precinct, a 1.09-square-mile command headquartered at 830 Washington Avenue that covers Morrisania, Claremont, and Crotona Park, according to the NYPD. Pattern of Violent Disputes in the Precinct
This is not the first violent, dispute-driven stabbing to hit Morrisania in recent weeks. Just two weeks earlier, a 15-year-old boy was stabbed in the leg on Fulton Avenue following a verbal altercation with an unidentified man in his 40s who fled in a white SUV, as Hoodline previously reported. That case also remains unsolved.
Earlier this year, in April, NYPD Crime Stoppers sought public assistance after a daylight stabbing outside a residential building on Bryant Avenue left a 21-year-old man slashed in the torso, forearm, and leg before his attacker escaped in a gray Honda. Detectives in that case canvassed for video and vehicle leads without a reported arrest. And in July, a physical fight broke out inside a commercial business on East 169th Street when a 39-year-old employee confronted a suspect stealing tip money, leading to a struggle before the suspect fled — a case that also drew a Crime Stoppers reward offer.
What the Numbers Show
The reward program itself, run through a partnership between the NYPD and the New York City Police Foundation, offers cash payments of up to $3,500 for anonymous tips leading to an arrest and indictment in violent felony cases, according to the New York City Police Foundation. That incentive has become a recurring tool for 42nd Precinct detectives working unsolved stabbings and assaults this year.
Official NYPD CompStat data from September shows reported robbery complaints in the 42nd Precinct fell 32% year-to-date compared to the same period in 2025, dropping from 331 to 225 reported cases. Even so, violent interpersonal disputes remain a persistent community concern, and Morrisania and Crotona Park East have historically registered a non-fatal assault rate of 161 per 100,000 residents, well above the citywide average, according to figures cited on the neighborhood's Wikipedia page.
Whether Tuesday's stabbing is connected to a broader pattern remains unclear. NYPD Crime Stoppers issued a separate public alert this month covering an ongoing robbery and violent crime pattern spanning the adjoining 41st, 42nd, and 43rd Precincts, though investigators have not linked that pattern to this latest attack.
Police have not said whether they have identified a suspect or determined a motive for the Union Avenue stabbing. The investigation continues, and no charges have been filed as the attacker remains at large.
