A Stark County brewpub known for pulling together friendships, celebrations and pints along the Tuscarawas River is calling it quits. 77 Brew House in Navarre plans to permanently close after Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026, with that date marking its final day of operation.
The brewery-brewpub announced its closure via Facebook, according to Cleveland.com, which reported that 77 Brew House described itself as a gathering place built around friendships, celebrations, conversations and beer. The outlet noted that Northeast Ohio Craft Beverage News, run by Rob Tittel, also reported on the closure announcement after it surfaced in a Facebook group. Cleveland.com said it reached out to 77 Brew House for further comment.
77 Brew House sits at 21 Canal St. in Navarre, Ohio, about 12 miles southwest of Canton and roughly 60 miles from downtown Cleveland, per the same report. The brewpub opened in 2022, with Clint McIntyre and Marshall Boivin credited with opening the brewery. According to Visit Canton, as cited in the report, 77 Brew House was the first brewery to operate in Navarre since 1877 — a detail that underscores just how rare a run this business represented for the small river town.
A Tough Stretch for Ohio's Craft Beer Scene
The closure lands amid a broader reckoning across Ohio's brewing industry. The Ohio Craft Brewers Association notes that Ohio's 433 breweries rank the state eighth nationally by sheer number, but 2025 marked the first year that brewery closings outpaced openings statewide — a trend the association expects to continue into 2026.
Inflationary pressure on costs has also challenged breweries across Ohio.
By late 2025, the picture had grown starker still. News 5 Cleveland reported that roughly 30 Ohio breweries had already closed that year by late November, compared with about 20 openings.
National Numbers Tell a Similar Story
The Brewers Association reported that U.S. craft beer production volume decreased 5.1% year over year in 2025.
The Ohio Craft Brewers Association has highlighted shifts in consumer preferences and alcohol consumption, along with the value of taproom sales and experience-driven interactions.
For Navarre, though, the resilience of the category nationally won't change what's coming at the end of the month. When 77 Brew House pours its last pint on Sept. 30, the small Stark County town will once again be without a brewery of its own — a distinction it had only just reclaimed after nearly a century and a half.
