A 35-year-old New Berlin man was arrested Saturday morning after police say he struck two pedestrians with his vehicle in a parking lot at ABB's Drives USA headquarters and then fled the scene. The crash happened around 8:22 a.m. at 18250 W. Lincoln Ave., where two Milwaukee men — ages 49 and 29 — were performing parking lot maintenance when they were hit.
The 49-year-old man was taken to a hospital following the crash, according to TMJ4 News, and both men are expected to be okay. Police responded to the West Lincoln Avenue business shortly before 8:30 a.m. Saturday to a report that a motorist had struck two pedestrians on the property and fled, according to CBS 58. Police later located the vehicle, conducted a traffic stop and took the driver into custody.
Preliminary Findings and the Road Ahead for Charges
The New Berlin Police Department reported the crash details and said its investigation remains ongoing. Per police, the preliminary investigation does not suspect alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. Investigators said a hit-and-run causing injury charge will be referred to the Waukesha County District Attorney's Office for review, per police.
Under Wisconsin Statutes § 346.67 and § 346.68, drivers involved in an accident causing bodily injury are legally required to stop, identify themselves, and render assistance, according to the Bucher Law Group. Fleeing the scene of an accident causing minor-to-moderate injury is classified as a Class A misdemeanor in Wisconsin, carrying a potential penalty of up to nine months in jail and fines as high as $10,000. State law treats hit-and-run incidents causing minor injury differently than those causing great bodily harm or death, the firm notes.
ABB's New Berlin Headquarters
The crash occurred at ABB's Drives USA headquarters in New Berlin. The company consolidated its local Milwaukee-area operations onto the New Berlin site as part of the campus's development.
Lincoln Avenue has seen other traffic incidents in recent memory. A single-vehicle crash in May 2025 at Calhoun Road and Lincoln Avenue, also in New Berlin, caused a major local power outage and damaged traffic signals, resulting in a driver's arrest for OWI causing bodily harm, according to FOX6 News Milwaukee. The ABB crash also occurred on West Lincoln Avenue.
Weekend Morning Timing Bucks Statewide Pattern
Saturday's crash timing stands out against broader state trends. Wisconsin Department of Transportation data shows pedestrian crashes occur predominantly on weekdays, with Friday recording the highest share at 17%, and typically peak between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. during the evening commute. Statewide, 1,385 pedestrian-involved crashes occurred in 2024, resulting in 1,283 pedestrian injuries and 59 fatalities, per the same agency's data.
Longer-term trends show pedestrian vulnerability rising across the state: an increase from 54 to 66 is about 22.2%.
